Scaling Stochastic Dynamics
from microscopic interactions to macroscopic phenomena
The goal of the project is modelling and analysis of complex systems motivated by problems in engineering sciences and physics. The dynamics of these systems are prescribed at a microscopic scale by means of stochastic processes. We aim to identify emergent macroscopic phenomena, and to relate quantitatively the macroscopic characteristics of these systems to the parameters of their microscopic interactions.
The project is led by Prof. Ioannis Kontoyannis and is hosted by the Institute of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences of the Foundation for Research and Technology, Hellas. Collaborating organisations are the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Athens University of Economics & Business, the University of Cambridge, UK and the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA), Brazil.
